The spokesmodels on financial TV were thrusting their pom-poms this morning over the Facebook acquisition of 'WhatsApp' for $19 billion dollars. This reminds me of techbubble-nomics. Facebook is paying with an inflated currency for a big chunk of it, eg. their stock.

Israel and Jordan signed a deal on February 19 in which Israel will supply Jordan with $500 million in natural gas over a 15-year period. The deal could be merely the first step, however, in a partnership that could potentially expand to an astonishing $30 billion.

Econintersect: The preliminary ("flash") PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) for manufacturing in the Eurozone fell a full point from January to February, coming in at 53.0. The service sector PMI barely budged, reading 51.7 in February following a 51.6 for January.

Yesterday Facebook did an acquisition that makes no sense to me. I had previously - on Twitter - questioned the $900 million paid by Rakuten (in Japan) for Viber. But that price looks modest compared to the price paid for the (much better) WhatsApp.
